The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially unveiled the provisional timetable for the 2026 SSCE. This announcement comes at a critical time, as the registration portal for school candidates officially closes today, March 13, 2026. Students nationwide must now pivot from registration to intensive revision.
According to the provisional timetable for the 2026 SSCE, the examination will commence on April 27, 2026. This year marks a historic shift in the Nigerian education system, as the Federal Ministry of Education has mandated a full transition to Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for both objective and essay components of the exam.
Important Examination Dates
The provisional timetable for the 2026 SSCE outlines an 8-week schedule. While minor subjects and practicals begin in late April, the core “general” papers will dominate the month of May:
- Monday, April 27: Practical sessions begin (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology).
- Wednesday, May 13: English Language (Objective, Essay, and Orals).
- Monday, May 18: General Mathematics (Core).
- Friday, June 19: Final examinations conclude.
New 2026 Subject Combination Rules
Candidates must note a major change in the provisional timetable for the 2026 SSCE regarding subject selection. WAEC has implemented a new policy where:
- Science Students can no longer offer Economics.
- Arts/Humanities Students are also barred from Economics.
- Only Business/Commercial Students are permitted to sit for Economics.
