JAMB Adjusts UTME Schedule
The Federal Government, through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), has officially announced that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will take full control of all Higher National Diploma (HND) admissions across Nigerian polytechnics and allied institutions starting from the 2026/2027 academic session.

This policy directive—issued via an NBTE circular signed by Executive Secretary Prof. Idris Bugaje following high-level meetings with the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, JAMB, and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)—ends years of decentralized, institution-led HND admissions.

Why the Federal Government Centralized HND Admissions

The central transition to a digital JAMB platform addresses major irregularities that have compromised technical education qualifications:

1. Elimination of Illegal Admissions: Many institutions previously admitted candidates into unaccredited HND programmes or beyond approved carrying capacities. Centralization blocks non-compliant uploads.
2. Seamless NYSC Mobilization: Thousands of HND graduates face mobilization delays due to unverified entry records or skipping mandatory Industrial Training (IT) periods. Centralizing admissions guarantees that every admitted candidate is automatically trackable for NYSC clearance.
3. Cap on Part-Time Admissions: To ensure quality control, part-time admissions across institutions are now strictly capped at 50% of an institution’s approved full-time quota.
4. Ban on NCE-to-HND Direct Progression: The NBTE reiterated that candidates holding an NCE/HND combination will no longer be mobilized for NYSC. NCE holders seeking HND qualifications must first obtain a National Diploma (ND) before applying via JAMB.

What ND Graduates & HND Applicants Must Do

Candidates intending to apply for HND programmes for the 2026/2027 session must prepare under the new regulatory framework:

1. Verify ND Accreditation: Ensure your National Diploma (ND) program was fully accredited and recognized by NBTE.
2. Observe Mandatory IT Waiting Period: Complete the required one-year Industrial Training (IT) (or two years for lower credit/pass grades) before submitting your application.
3. Process Application via Centralized Portal: All prospective HND candidates will now apply through a dedicated digital portal managed by JAMB using their original ND registration data.
4. Avoid Offline / Campus Direct Sales: Do not purchase unapproved offline paper application forms directly from institutions without verifying JAMB portal integration.
