In line with statutory federal holiday directives, basic schools, polytechnics, colleges of education, and public and private universities across Nigeria are set to officially observe the nationwide public holiday marking Christmas Day.
The annual statutory break will see academic activities, administrative operations, lectures, and examinations suspended across primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions to enable students and staff members participate in the festive celebrations.
National Holiday Compliance Matrix for Educational Institutions
| Institution Category | Academic & Work Status | Operational Directives |
| Primary & Secondary Schools | Closed | Full suspension of classes and holiday break compliance |
| Federal & State Universities | Closed | Suspension of lectures, clinicals, and administrative work |
| Polytechnics & Monotechnics | Closed | Total pause on academic calendars and semester exams |
| Essential Campus Services | Restricted Duty | Campus security, medical centers, and utility maintenance on rotation |
Directive for Academic Registrars and School Administrators
- Adjustments to Academic Timetables: University Senate committees and academic planning units are mandated to ensure that ongoing continuous assessments, semester examinations, and lecture schedules do not conflict with approved public holiday periods.
- Campus Security Protocols: Management across various campuses have been advised to strengthen physical security infrastructure and maintain active surveillance teams to safeguard institutional assets and student hostels during the academic break.
- Essential Service Deployment: Tertiary institutions will deploy skeleton staff to manage critical utility units, campus clinics, and power sub-stations during the declared holidays.
Directives for Students and Parents
Parents and guardians are advised to note official school closing dates and holiday resumption schedules communicated through institutional portals. Meanwhile, tertiary students residing in university halls are encouraged to adhere strictly to campus security advisories regarding hostel clearance and personal safety during the festive holiday window.
