Suspend University Admissions Pending
The Owners of Private Schools Association of Nigeria (OPSAN) has called on the Federal Government to immediately order a temporary suspension of ongoing admission processes into Nigerian tertiary institutions for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The association warns that proceeding with admissions while thousands of candidates await their NECO, NABTEB, and outstanding WAEC results risks shutting out qualified applicants across the country.

Why Proprietors Are Raising the Alarm

In a statement signed by OPSAN National President, Prof. Uzochukwu Solomon Nwanonyuo, following a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, the association expressed strong concerns over what it termed an uneven playing field for admission seekers:

1. Disadvantage to NECO and NABTEB Candidates: Many tertiary institutions rely predominantly on available WAEC results to offer placements, leaving candidates who sat for national examination bodies like NECO and NABTEB at a disadvantage.
2. Impact on Technical and Vocational Students: Students from Federal Science and Technical Colleges, commercial schools, and vocational centers—who primarily rely on NABTEB and NECO qualifications—are being excluded as professional courses fill up.
3. Institutional Disparity: OPSAN noted that several federal and state universities have already concluded screening exercises and admissions into highly sought-after professional programs while pending O’Level candidates have not had an opportunity to upload their verified credentials.

Demands Sent to the Ministry of Education & Regulatory Bodies

OPSAN has officially petitioned key education authorities with the following recommendations:

• Minister of Education (Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa): Intervene directly to mandate JAMB and tertiary institutions to pause the admission cycle until all O’Level results are fully released and uploaded.
• Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB): Ensure the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) remains accessible and open for all awaiting-result candidates to upload their verified grades before institutional deadlines lapse.
• National Universities Commission (NUC): Direct universities nationwide to halt Post-UTME screenings and admission lists until a level playing ground is established.
• Examination Bodies (NECO & NABTEB): Expedite the release and processing of their respective examination results to prevent further academic delays for candidates.
