Professor Edu Inam, a Nigerian analytical chemist and Director of the International Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Research at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has been named a recipient of the inaugural 2026 Faculty for the Future Impact Prize by the Schlumberger Foundation.
Selected among nine awardees out of 156 applications from 61 countries, Professor Inam was recognized for her project, “Scaling a Research Equipment Database for Equitable Access in Nigeria”.

About the Winning Initiative: LabEquipment.ng
Professor Inam developed LabEquipment.ng to solve a persistent infrastructure challenge facing Nigerian academics: locating functional scientific equipment and obtaining access to carry out laboratory testing and advanced research.
- Core Function: A centralized, searchable database connecting researchers, laboratory officers, and higher institutions to available scientific tools and research capabilities nationwide.
- Current Footprint: As of late 2025, the platform onboarded 22 higher institutions, listed over 200 scientific tools, and recorded more than 3,000 research interactions.
- Impact Goals: Reduce duplicate equipment purchases by government and institutions, improve equipment maintenance visibility, and enable postgraduate students to complete research locally in Nigeria.
Funding Focus and Next Steps
The grant awarded under the Schlumberger Foundation Impact Prize will support:
- Mobile Platform Expansion: Developing mobile application access for researchers on the go.
- Institutional Onboarding: Scaling database verification across major public and private universities in Nigeria.
- Capacity Building: Streamlining laboratory service requests and fostering cross-institutional scientific collaborations.
