Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Government has ordered the immediate closure of forty-seven (47) Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs) across the country. This decisive action, taken on December 21, 2025, is a critical, proactive security measure following a recent surge in the mass abduction of students from learning institutions in key states.
The directive, issued by the Federal Ministry of Education, underscores the government’s commitment to prioritizing the safety of students and staff during this crisis.
Reason for Federal Unity Colleges Closure 47
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, approved the Federal Unity Colleges Closure 47 in response to the escalating security challenges nationwide.
The circular states:
“Sequel to the recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breaches, the Honourable Minister of Education has approved the immediate closure of the listed Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs) with immediate effect (see attached). Principals of affected Colleges are to ensure strict compliance.”

The Ministry has directed the immediate evacuation of students. Therefore, parents and guardians are urged to cooperate with the school authorities to ensure a swift and orderly process.
