Dangote Cement scholarship Okpella
In a major boost to host community development and human capital investment, Dangote Cement Plc (Okpella Plant) has awarded scholarships worth ₦32 million to 80 students across secondary and tertiary institutions.
The company also commissioned four 500KVA electricity transformers aimed at addressing power supply challenges, supporting local enterprises, and improving the standard of living across its host communities in Okpella, Edo State.

The educational intervention scheme provides direct financial support to students at key stages of their academic journey:

Note: The scholarship beneficiaries include 60 undergraduate students studying across various tertiary institutions in Nigeria and 20 secondary school students drawn directly from Okpella host communities.
Strategic Infrastructure: Four 500KVA Power Transformers Commissioned
Beyond education support, the commissioning of four 500KVA power transformers forms a key element of the company’s Community Development Agreement (CDA). Access to reliable grid electricity is expected to:
- Lower Operating Costs: Reduce small business reliance on expensive alternative power like petrol and diesel generators.
- Improve Household Welfare: Support evening studies for students and enhance local living conditions.
- Stimulate Micro-Economic Activity: Empower local trade, refrigeration, and small-scale manufacturing across Okpella.
Corporate Commitment to Host Communities
Speaking during the award ceremony and commissioning event, the Social Performance Manager of Dangote Cement’s Okpella Plant, Daniel Obamina, emphasized that education remains one of the most effective tools for social transformation and economic advancement.
“We want these students to become future leaders, professionals, and contributors to the development of their communities and Nigeria as a whole,” Obamina stated.
Community leaders, parents, and youth representatives present at the ceremony commended the initiative, noting that the ₦32 million fund comes at a critical time when rising education costs place a heavy burden on Nigerian households.
