FirstBank Digital Experience Centre UniAbuja
In a major push to expand digital financial inclusion and deliver seamless self-service banking to tech-savvy youth, First Bank of Nigeria Limited has unveiled a state-of-the-art Digital Experience Centre (DXC) at the University of Abuja (UniAbuja).
The 24-hour, fully automated self-service facility is specifically designed to cater to over 40,000 students, academic staff, and community members on the campus, eliminating the traditional constraints of physical banking hours.
24/7 Self-Service Banking Built for Gen Z
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FirstBank, Olusegun Alebiosu, emphasized that the establishment of the DXC aligns with the bank’s strategy to onboard Generation Z and digital-native students into modern banking frameworks.
“These young ones grew up using phones to do everything they want to do. We want to bring the Gen Zs on our platform because, in 20 years, physical branch dependency will drop drastically,” Alebiosu noted.
Key Features and Automated Services Available at the DXC
The University of Abuja DXC is equipped with cutting-edge automated kiosks and interactive self-service systems that allow users to complete complex transactions within minutes without human teller intervention:
- Instant Debit Card Issuance: Card Request and Vending Machines (CVM) that print new or replacement debit cards on the spot.
- Automated Cash Recyclers & ATMs: Real-time cash deposits, withdrawals, and instant cheque processing.
- Self-Service Kiosks: Facilities for account opening, fund transfers, statement generation, and email/phone number updates.
- Enhanced Security Measures: Built-in biometric fingerprint verification and One-Time Password (OTP) security protocols for sensitive account maintenance tasks.
Strategic Impact on Campus Life and Local Economy
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi, commended FirstBank for establishing a world-class financial hub on campus.
He highlighted that having a round-the-clock banking point directly inside the campus resolves long-standing convenience and safety challenges previously faced by students traveling off-campus for financial transactions.
The UniAbuja installation joins a growing list of strategically placed FirstBank DXC locations across top tertiary institutions in Nigeria, including the University of Ibadan (UI), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and University of Benin (UNIBEN).
