Introduction
The management of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has officially refuted claims circulating on social media about a supposed increase in tuition fees for the 2025/2026 academic session.
In a memo signed by the Registrar, Yakubu F. Ayuba, PLASU confirmed that tuition fees remain unchanged for both new and returning students. The University stressed that no adjustments have been made since 2022, despite ongoing economic challenges and inflation.
Clarification on the ICT Charge
The memo clarified that the confusion stemmed from the introduction of a new ₦5,000 ICT charge, which is not part of tuition fees. According to the Registrar, the ICT charge was approved by the University’s Governing Council to enhance digital learning, improve campus connectivity, and maintain free internet access for students and staff.
The ₦10,000 Bench Fee Explained
PLASU also reiterated that the ₦10,000 Bench Fee, introduced in 2021, remains active. Initially applicable only to final-year students, the fee has now been extended to 22 departments whose programs involve fieldwork, excursions, or practical productions. The University emphasized that this uniform charge replaced previous arbitrary departmental levies, ensuring fairness and transparency.
Financial Support for Students
To further ease financial concerns, the University urged students to take advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) introduced by the Federal Government. The loan covers tuition, accommodation, and other study-related costs, providing relief for students in need.
