
The management of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria has issued a strong warning to members of the university community and the general public about the activities of fraudsters impersonating the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, on social media platforms.
Nature of the Scam
- Since Prof. Ahmed assumed office in May 2025, impostors have cloned his identity on WhatsApp and Facebook, using his name and photograph.
- The fraudsters have been contacting individuals with false claims about contract awards for the supply of computers and accessories.
- They also operate with multiple phone numbers, all falsely attributed to the Vice-Chancellor.
University’s Warning
- ABU stresses that these messages are fraudulent and should be completely ignored.
- The Vice-Chancellor does not use social media for awarding contracts or conducting official business.
- Members of the public are advised to stay vigilant and avoid falling victim to such scams.
Security Measures
The ABU Security Division, in collaboration with relevant security agencies, has launched investigations and is actively working to:
- Track the perpetrators,
- Arrest them, and
- Ensure they are prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Reminder: All official communications from Ahmadu Bello University will only come through its verified channels.
Kindly disregard any suspicious messages claiming to be from the Vice-Chancellor.
