Federal Poly Nasarawa Absenteeism
The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa (FEDPONAS), Nasarawa State, has issued a stern directive warning academic staff against chronic absenteeism, late coming, and unauthorized abandonment of lecture schedules.

The institution’s authorities directed Heads of Departments (HODs), Deans of Schools, and the Academic Planning Directorate to immediately activate daily monitoring mechanisms to track lecture delivery and ensure strict compliance with approved semester timetables.

Executive Summary of Academic Discipline Directive

Parameter	Official Details
Institution	Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa (FEDPONAS)
Target Audience	All Academic Staff & Teaching Personnel
Issuing Authority	Polytechnic Management & Academic Planning Directorate
Core Directive	Mandatory Class Attendance, Zero-Tolerance for Unannounced Absences
Enforcement Strategy	Unscheduled Class Spot-Checks, HOD Daily Logs, Student Class Rep Reports

Key Management Directives and Enforcement Measures

To restore academic discipline and safeguard student learning time, the polytechnic management outlined the following compliance directives:

1. Daily Attendance Tracking: Heads of Departments are mandated to maintain daily lecture monitoring registers and forward weekly compliance reports to their respective School Deans and the Academic Planning Unit.
2. Prior Permission Requirement: Lecturers needing to miss scheduled classes due to official engagements or emergency circumstances must obtain formal approval from their HODs and arrange make-up lectures in advance.
3. Student Class Representative Engagement: Class representatives have been instructed to officially report any unexcused lecturer absence or habitual lateness directly to the department leadership.
4. Disciplinary Sanctions: Management warned that persistent non-compliance, failure to cover course syllabi, or unapproved absences will attract administrative queries and official disciplinary actions under federal civil service and polytechnic regulations.

Impact on Academic Standards and Student Readiness

The management emphasized that the renewed enforcement push is part of broader institutional reforms aimed at upholding academic integrity, ensuring timely completion of course outlines, and preventing lecture backlog as semester examinations approach.
