The Federal Government has launched the ACE Alliance Nigeria, alongside a detailed Compendium highlighting the success and achievements of the Africa Centres of Excellence (ACE) Project. This landmark move reinforces Nigeria’s leadership in transnational education, TVET, research, and regional innovation across Africa.
The launch took place at the National Universities Commission (NUC) Headquarters, Abuja, with the Honourable Minister of Education, Chief Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, leading the event. He stated that the ACE Alliance Nigeria represents a stronger, unified platform for collaboration among the country’s 20 Africa Centres of Excellence. In addition, he noted that the initiative deepens research capacity, enhances higher-education quality, and strengthens Nigeria’s position in Africa’s knowledge economy.
The ACE initiative is supported by the World Bank and the French Development Agency (AFD) in partnership with the Federal Government. It has, over the years, empowered institutions, increased research output, expanded technical expertise, and developed skilled professionals who now drive innovation and problem-solving across the continent.
Furthermore, the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, described the ACE Project as one of Africa’s most impactful higher-education programmes. He also announced the forthcoming ACE Innovate Project, which will provide $150 million in funding to boost innovation ecosystems, technical excellence, and entrepreneurial development among African youth.
With the launch of the ACE Alliance Nigeria, the government has taken another strategic step toward advancing Nigeria’s educational competitiveness, regional influence, and contribution to Africa’s future in innovation and research.
