]]> The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced a significant policy shift for the upcoming 2026 Mock-UTME. In a move to provide candidates with more comprehensive practice, JAMB extends 2026 mock UTME to 4 hours, effectively doubling the previous examination time.

Scheduled for this Saturday, March 28, 2026, the mock exam will now feature a “Dual Session” format. This change aims to test the endurance of candidates and the stability of the CBT centers’ systems under prolonged use.

The New 4-Hour Mock Structure

Candidates will no longer sit for a single two-hour paper. Instead, the 2026 Mock-UTME will consist of two consecutive sessions:

  • First Session (2 Hours): Focusing on the standard four-subject combination.
  • Mandatory Break (30 Minutes): A short interval for candidates to stretch and refresh.
  • Second Session (2 Hours): A specialized “Speed and Accuracy” test designed by JAMB to simulate high-pressure scenarios.

Mandatory Attendance and Potential Sanctions

In a statement released on Monday, March 23, the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, emphasized that participation is no longer just “optional practice” for those who registered.

Because JAMB extends 2026 mock UTME to 4 hours, the board has invested more resources into the exercise. Consequently, any candidate who registered for the mock but fails to show up may face sanctions, including a potential delay in the release of their main UTME results in April.

How to Prepare for the 4-Hour Session

The transition to a four-hour exam requires mental stamina. Here is how you should prepare:

  1. Reprint Your Mock Slip: JAMB has updated the portal. Visit slipsprinting.jamb.gov.ng to print the “Dual-Session” version of your slip.
  2. Stamina Training: Use the DTW JAMB CBT App to practice taking two full-length exams back-to-back.
  3. Nutrition: Since you will be in the hall for over four hours, ensure you eat a sustainable, light meal before arriving at the center.

Why This Change Matters

By extending the mock, JAMB is ensuring that students are fully prepared for any technical or physical challenges they might face during the main 2026 UTME. It also allows the board to verify that all CBT centers can maintain power and network stability for an extended duration.

The University of Ilorin has publicly declared its strong support for the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), praising his transparent and courageous leadership in managing the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.

In an official letter dated May 15, 2025, signed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, the institution applauded the JAMB Registrar’s honesty and accountability in addressing the technical error that affected the results of over 300,000 candidates nationwide.

The Vice Chancellor noted that rather than shifting blame to the service provider responsible for the error, the Registrar took full responsibility—an action Professor Egbewole described as “an uncommon phenomenon in Nigeria.” He further commended the Registrar’s commitment to truthfulness and public accountability, affirming that nothing was hidden from the public throughout the process.

“As a University, we want to put on record that the Board approached the issues with truthfulness and integrity,” the letter read. “Your courage, honesty of purpose, strength of character, and sense of responsibility are worthy of emulation by the younger generation.”

UNILORIN went on to express pride in the Registrar as a distinguished alumnus of the university and a worthy ambassador, stating that the institution stands solidly behind him during and after the recent developments.

“We are indeed very proud of you,” the letter stated. “We pray that God will continue to lead you and grant you the grace to be of more invaluable service to our country.”

The University’s public backing of the JAMB boss adds a significant voice of support at a time when public institutions are increasingly being held to higher standards of transparency and accountability. Stakeholders across the education sector have praised JAMB’s leadership for handling the matter in a manner that upholds public trust and institutional integrity.
